NPCC Recruitment Drive 2008
It was a rainy Friday, yet the anticipation to do the recruitment drive was burning in me. I was looking forward to this day, where I will be able to promote NPCC to the Secondary One students as how my seniors have done it before me. I still remember last year, when I first entered Canberra, I was a new comer looking for the perfect CCA for me during the recruitment and my seniors promoted NPCC. The attractions that were displayed enticed me and they were really convincing. This year, I’m in the shoes of my seniors. It is my turn to promote NPCC.
Before the start of the event, a briefing was done and we were taught on how to interact with the Secondary One students. I listened attentively to the briefing. Then, chatter’s and laughter’s were heard coming from the stairs. We were told to move to our respective stations within the designated area. There were so many of them. My heart was pounding, as I was afraid that I would say the wrong things. I was told to interact, explain to them more on NPCC and the activities we had. The challenge was to approach the Secondary One students, who were hard nuts to crack. But my squad mates and I persevere throughout.
The atmosphere of the recruitment drive was very competitive. Other CCAs, did their very best to attract the students to their booth. We had to make our booth outstand from the others. The intensity of the situation grew as many more students came down. The entire parade square was like a flea market where people bargained. I approached as many Secondary One students as I could, to give them the flyers and capture their interest. In 2 hours, which seem as eternity to me, ended. The hectic parade square now lingers in silence as the students headed backed to the hall.
The recruitment drive ended in a high note. Cadets of all level were hyper and satisfied with the response of the Secondary One students. The experienced that I gained in this event is an unforgettable one which I will carry out throughout my years in NPCC.

This is the official blog for canberra Npcc Unit. This blog is summited for:
Regent Secondary School Inter-unit NPCC Blog Challenge 2007
The theme of this competition is millennium, therefore, the colors I first thought of is grayish and grayish white. This is because, I feel that grayish color shows some kind "future" in it, and white shows how forward looking we are as a unit.
The theme song for this blog is "I love you". It is a song from bunny television series. A group of us sang it during the last year of annual camp 06. It was sweet and memorial. This video clip can be found on the last section (the photos section). On top of that, I also uploaded, a short clip which is done by our past NCOs. This short clip represented our unit. Therefore, I found this video unique and placed it in the blog
I hoped you have joined the blog

2 years of Silver unit in Canberra Secondary School
From our first batch of cadets in 2004, we had a bronze. However, the light of success shone on us when we were awarded a silver unit for our Unit overall Proficiency Award.
We felt really happy as the effort put were recognized.
It was in 2005, when we first received the award. The process of getting the award was hard and uneasy. In the past six years, when our unit was just formed, we needed to start everything from starch, building our standards, and improving them. This were easy to say but had to do it. I believed the past OC have done a really good job. Our seniors effort must not be forgot as they assisted the TO though this hardship.
Then, maintaining silver in the unit wasn’t easy. We must make sure that we and the cadets were on track with us to achieve the same target. Our teacher officers and the cadet inspectors were strict to us and we all knew that it was for our and the unit to be good. We attended almost all the competitions that were held by other schools and we always wanted to get a champion for our unit. I am about happy to say that we have won champion for area 2 games day, area 7 games day and sudoku challenge. These awards motivated us to keep trying and our never-say-die spirit continues.
Our past NCOs batch was well trained with high standards and ability. They kept the unit running with toil and sweat, expecting nothing in return. Every lecture and parade was a learning experience for us.
Our highlighted events for the past two years were the unit camp craft competition and the requirement badge of the marksmanship. We did it very well for both makes and females teams; they ranked 29 and 13 respectively. This was indeed a glory for our unit.
As the years passed, there were a great improvement in one, attendance, two, more voluntary work and our uniform filled with more badges.
As for this year, we were still trying our very best to maintain or getting a gold for the unit. With everyone effort, I believed that we can do it. All the way, CANBERRA!

Flag Day
4:10 AM
Flag Day 2007
The flag day, kick started with a briefing conducted by the organizer. He then registered us and gave us a can each and a few stickers to sell. Our location for selling was at Sun plaza. Feeling excited, we rushed to take a train back to Sembawang.
At there, we spread out the area. Some of them even rushed to “book” good places to sell flags. Under the sun, I sell my flags. In a few hours, I saw different perspectives that I never seen before. For example, taxi driver who was driving his passenger, stop the car, and gave me a $2 dollar note. A normal taxi driver who always complain about his/her job, you know complaining about lesser passenger, lesser income, increase of car oil, makes them loss more income, is willing to stop his car, and pass me a $2 dollar note. To others, may be a "usual" thing, but to me as a student, I see a different side of a taxi driver.
I also noticed that, older people usually are more generous. I do not mean that teenagers are heartless. However, some of them also donated much. The flag day was to sell the flags to help the old folks, but this old people, they are willing to gives their, 10 cent, 50 cents, $1 dollar or even $10 dollars, this means that, they are actually have a better side. Although, now a day, news is saying that, the old people are complaining that lesser people are willing to employ them.
Lastly, I have seen, many parents have set good examples for their child to follow. Often, this parent, stop to tell their children to give a few cents from them to us. I feel that, this is actually very good. As, everything needs to be learn from young
After it, we returned our cans and check out of the flag out. Though, it was only a few hours under hot sun but I learn a lot of things

Pick-up stick Competition
(Area 7 games Day)
14 July 2007, was a big day to me. At 7 am, I meet up with my squad mates and we took a train to Seng Kang Secondary School, which hosted the event. It was the NPCC area 7 games day. I participated with my squad mate in the competition; while the rest took part in other games. We went into the room for the competition and waited for our turn.
Soon, it was my turn and I was tested on some of the questions regarding total defence, so as to see who will start first. My opponent was a cadet from ever-green Secondary School.
We played for a very long time and picking up sticks and luckily for me, I emerged as the winner. I was really happy about it. A few minutes later, it was my squad mate’s turn and her opponent was another cadet form ever-green. It was a long game too. My squad mates were in the lead and she emerged as the champion too.
Therefore, we were the overall champion as we scored 130 points. It was really fun. We were then told to report back to get our trophy later, so we went to meet up with our squad mates and unfortunately, they lost in all the games. We were quite disappointed but least we won a trophy.
We then went around the school taking photos before receiving our trophy. It was really a honor for us to get a trophy back for our school

Batam Trip

Batam Trip 2007
In 18 March 2007, I took a bus to harbor front to take the ferry to Batam. After that we were bought in our sijori resort and place our bags inside there, we were told to change to a appropriate attire to go farming. I felt excited as this was my first time getting my hands dirty for farming. We took a small van to the farm. On the way, we took many photos as the sceneries outside were really beautiful; we also made many noises from our laughter and talks.
It was a long ride to the farm, some of us even fall a sleep inside. At the farm, we were really hungry and got our lunch first. Then, we tour around the farm, and gathered in the shed. The farmer taught us how to farm and it was a really fun experience.
After farming, the farmer introduced us his homes, and his environment. All of us listen attentively of what he was saying. Then we headed back to our bunks to get some rest and prepared for dinner later. We had our dinner in a hotel and the food was really wonderful and tasty.
Then after we have settled our hungry, we went to shop around the place and bought some stuff for us to eat; we had our night walk after it. It was scary and we had to overcome our fears. It ended when we reached the point and we took our bus back to the resort. We had our briefing inside while eating the chocolates and chips that were bought earlier on. We also went to watch television, went to have a bath before we got to sleep.
The next morning, after we had our breakfast, we went to the orphanage to pay a visit to the children. We have fun there and we enjoyed each other presence there. We gave them gifts and took photos as memories. We had lunch at the school and we took the gifts ms tay and some teachers bought using our money and gave to the orphans at the orphanage.
Smiles were seen in their faces. We even had a soccer match will then, they were really good and win us. We also have a great time playing the go-cart.
We have a barbecue dinner at the resort after which, everyone enjoyed the food especially the potato salad. At the end of the day, we got tired and went to sleep.
The next morning, we had our usual meal at the lobby. It was our last day there, and after the meal, we checked out the resort at 9.45. We boarded our bus and went around batam to shop.
Happy moments end earlier, we left the place after we shopped and we longed to go back batam again
